ProbDet is an essential tool for radar system engineers. This simple app allows one to easily associate detection probability (Pd) with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), target fluctuation model, false alarm probability (Pfa), and number of pulses integrated (N). An ideal square law detector and non-coherent (post-detection) integration is assumed.
The results have been thoroughly validated against standard references in the field such as Meyer and Mayer, which rely on hundreds of plots to describe the information that this app provides.
The method employed for determining the probability is straightforward numerical inversion and integration of the characteristic function associated with the sum of magnitude squared random draws of a generalized chi-square distributed signal in the presence of white Gaussian in-phase and quadrature noise. As such, the results are exact to the extent of the displayed precision.
